Below you will find answers to the most commonly asked questions about our custom designs & alterations.
If there is something that isn't answered here, feel free to contact us
Where is everything made?
Everything is made at the Agadesal atelier in Roselle, Illinois.
All fabrics are acquired locally in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
Do you do all of the work yourself from start to finish?
Yes. I do everything from the initial garment sketch to fabric sourcing, pattern making, sewing, and fitting. Read my bio to learn more about my experience.
How much does a custom dress cost?
The cost of designing and making something specifically for you depends on the intricacy of the design. The more elaborate the design of the dress the more costly it will be to bring to reality. Special occasion dresses begin at $500.00 and wedding gowns begin at $2,000.00 and increase in price based on design.
How long does it take to make a dress?
Please allow 6-8 months for the construction of your dress. This time frame guarantees that you are satisfied with the fabric, quality, and fit.
What should I bring to my consultation?
- up to 5 pictures of inspiration for your dress
- shoes & undergarments you will be wearing with the dress (if you don't want to wear a ba, we can build one in)
- a friend for a second opinion (optional)
- wear comfortable clothes so we can take accurate measurements
Can I schedule a consultation for a price quote?
How much do alterations cost?
The cost of the alterations depends on the fabric of your dress, the intricacy of the work, and how long it will take to complete. Every gown alteration is different because every body is unique. To get an estimate of the pricing visit our pricing page.
What do I need to bring to my fittings?
Undergarments and shoes are a MUST at the first fitting. During that time we will take measurements, discuss and pin what will be altered, and decide if extra materials need to be ordered.
Feel free to bring accessories to your appointment such as your veil & jewelry.
What if I lose weight/ am pregnant?
We ask that you maintain your weight as we start the alterations to eliminate the risk of making irreversible changes to the gown (and to save you money!)
If your weight changes between fittings, additional charges will apply.
If you are losing weight up until your wedding or are pregnant, you may choose to rush the alterations (14 days or less) in which case, a rush fee will be applied to the overall cost of alterations. Realistically, the rush fee will be less than paying for alterations twice.
How long do alterations take?
The timeline for wedding gown alterations is dependent on a few factors like the event date, availability, and the intricacy of the work to be done.
Normally we schedule 2-3 wedding dress fittings 5-6 weeks before the wedding. This time frame guarantees that all of the alterations are approved and to your liking.
Schedule your appointments as soon as possible because we can't guarantee availability.
What is a bustle and what are my options?
A bustle is a method in which the train of the gown is tied up. It is put up before the party/reception so the dress does not drag on the floor.
There are many types of bustles and each style depends on the design of the gown.
Below are the three most popular bustles.
Should I get my gown cleaned first?
If it is a sample dress then chances are that it has been tried on and worn numerous times. If it has stains and odors then it is highly recommended to get it cleaned before the alterations begin.
